New Original Research Reframing
Equity: A Multi-Perspective Analysis of Telehealth Screening Tools Through the Lens of Patients and Clinicians Matthew Sakumoto, MD, Sarah Krug, MS
PDF HTML XML EPUB
Telehealth usage increased dramatically during the COVID-19 pandemic, but equitable access remains a concern. Patients lacking technology access, skills, and digital literacy may not benefit fully. Validated telehealth literacy screening instruments are lacking. This study evaluated existing tools from patient and
clinician perspectives. Overall, and not surprisingly, clinicians had greater technology comfort and more digital healthcare usage than patients. Patients ranked TCS highest overall, while clinicians preferred DHCLS. All participants ranked eHEALS lowest. Patients valued simplicity and clarity while clinicians favored brevity and clinical focus. Screening instruments should align with key engagement drivers: access, competency, digital literacy, relevancy, trust, and preferences. Tailored tools
co-designed with patients and clinicians can promote equitable telehealth adoption and engagement.

Telemedicine in Extreme Conditions: Overcoming Challenges in Disaster, War, Hostile, and Remote Environments
In extreme instances, civilian and healthcare fabrics are disrupted, and infrastructure and connectivity are often compromised –precisely when the demand for healthcare
services is at its highest. Digital health solutions and telemedicine can play a critical role in providing support and relief in these situations to bridge the gap between patients and providers, creating innovative approaches that go beyond standard practices. In light of the urgent needs for critical care in remote environments across the globe, Telehealth and Medicine Today is pleased to announce this theme issue for multidisciplinary audiences, including verified digital heath experiences
from patients. For full details click here, or please visit https://telehealthandmedicinetoday.com/index.php/journal/callformanuscripts
