Blockchain technology has been at the forefront of innovation and maturing fast. Though the innovation in the permissionless
space is high, enterprise adoption is still low. Reasons include inadequate understanding of the technology, full awareness within enterprises, unclear regulations, and lack of exploration and evangelism to really understand the re-imagination of shared enterprise business processes. Authors of this paper share a real world reference implementation presenting results, and findings at the technical, functional, operational, and change management levels for healthcare administration executives and
portfolio managers.
The article explores the root causes for challenges and suggests a methodology to discovery key inflection points for collaborative business processes and the re-engineering needed. Authors conduct a landscape analysis of blockchain-based transformations and success rates through a literature search, industry reports, and fellow practitioner experiences trying to scale business use beyond concept and pilot. Best
practices are included in the framework.
Results of this effort exceeded expectations in proving hyper-efficiencies based on blockchain constructs of provenance, real-time events, and collaborative decision-making involving multiple parties in a staging environment. From the healthcare payor processes perspective, there is evidence for “no friction to low friction” with ecosystem partners deployed using blockchain
technologies.
The article demonstrates blockchain is fundamental to reimagining business. It has immense potential but needs a framework with differentiated capabilities and templates. Framework and results from one deployment setting are provided.
