Blockchain in Healthcare Today Platform Approaches Journal (BHTY), has published a ground breaking article pushing the
boundaries of cancer research and patient empowerment. This case use enables using donated biospecimens to create organoids (copies of patient tumors), that revolutionize precision medicine and drug discovery. Article authors leverage tokenization, transparency, and the privacy preservation of blockchain technology to advance a decentralized biobanking prototype that empowers patient engagement in organoid research. A proof of concept
NFT framework was designed for a simulated human cancer model research network deploying smart contracts on Ethereum test networks which minted NFTs representing each stakeholder, biospecimen, and organoid.
The results of the prototype demonstrate the viability of NFTs in scientific studies. The application featured key activities for patients, including biospecimen tracking, the ability to view organoids, learn about ongoing studies,
creating peer-to-peer communications with scientists on a Web3 platform that engages patients, physicians, and scientists in a privacy-preserving organoid community.
